Our next meeting will take place on Saturday May 10th 2025.

This month IPS Mid-West member, Loretta O'Brien, will give a lecture and slide presentation about her Kandinsky quilts. You can see the quilts in person at her exhibition  "Kandinsky Triangles and Thread" in The People's Museum, Georgian House, 2 Pery Square Limerick,  from May 15th to 25th.

Moya Geraghty of Patchwork Plus, Cork, will be our visiting shop and speaker.

This is a busy meeting with lots going on. First our AGM first for Branch members.   Thank you to the Western Branch Committee members who have looked after the affairs of the branch in the past year. We look forward to welcoming some new committee members for the year ahead.

The AGM will be followed by our Show and Tell and talk by Loretta O'Brien.

Members will also be showing their entries for this year's Western Challenge. The challenge was to make something from the Canadian themed blocks donated to the branch by members of the Markham Craft Guild who visited us in October. It will be judged by our visiting speaker.

In March we had a very successful exhibition in the Hall of the Red Earl, "Green". The winner of the Viewers' Choice prize will be presented with the Bernadette Falvey Trophy.

And once all that is done you are welcome to stay for a sharing lunch before we break up for the summer. Our first meeting after the summer will be Saturday, September 13th.

Admission at the door is €5. (Notes please, no coins. Thank you.)

We look forward to seeing you at the Galway Bridge Centre (H91 C2C3) from 10am to 12.30

Launching of the Brigit's Garden Quilt

The Brigit's Garden quilt was made in response to an invitation to the Western Branch IPS from Jenny Beale, founder, to create a textile piece celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the garden. With Mari Moran and Frances Shanahan co-ordinating the work we began in the spring of 2024 and completed the piece by October. The strong winds of Storm Bert meant postponing the unveiling until February.

And so on February 8th, we had a lovely afternoon at Brigit's Garden. Members of the Western Branch were joined by IPS executive Chairperson, Mary Bell and Máire Ní Chionna, Chair of the Board of Trustees of Brigit's Gardens, for the official unveiling of the Brigit's Garden Quilt. The piece hangs in the entrance hall, on the right at reception. Twenty one members made the blocks for the borders and five members made the four centre panels. These feature interpretations of the four Celtic Gardens: Samhain, Imbolc, Bealtaine and Lughnasa.
