“Flower Power”

presented by the Irish Patchwork Society and The European Quilt Association

A free exhibition of approximately 300 small round textile art pieces (think LP size) inspired by the theme of “Flower Power”.

These interpretations fit beautifully in the glorious surrounds of the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin.  Viewed together they are a riot of colour and joy!

The EQA challenge is an annual event to inspire and challenge members to explore and experiment with textiles and stitch. It has a reputation for being democratic, engaging, fun, and always something special. The interpretations are fascinating and diverse and reflect the different cultures of the artists across all 21 member countries.  A number of Irish textile artists are represented.

This year we are spreading out a blanket of flowers to give visitors the feeling that they are walking through a luscious garden full of textile creations. Come and see our multinational European garden of colour and imagination.  Let yourself be captured by the many visions of beauty!

This exhibition was launched at Festival of Quilts in Birmingham on August 3rd and will hang in the botanic gardens till Sunday 20th of August.  It will then travel throughout Europe for the next twelve months.

Founded in 1981, The Irish Patchwork Society (IPS) has been a member of the European Quilt Association (EQA) since its formation in 1989. The current member countries include, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxemborg, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

The aim of the EQA is to work closely together to promote patchwork and quilting in Europe and to encourage the sharing of knowledge and information between member guilds. Members of any of the above country’s guilds/societies are automatically members of the EQA.
